The Real Alcázar of Seville is open every day from 09:30: until 19:00 in summer and 17:00 in winter. Those are the visiting hours; the official page adds that staff only start clearing the site 45 minutes later, at 19:45 in summer and 17:45 in winter.
Closed: 1 January, 6 January, Good Friday and 25 December.
The seasons change on fixed dates, not with the clocks: summer hours start on 1 April and winter hours on 1 October.
How late can you arrive?
Your ticket is for a time slot, and the official shop only sells slots within the visiting hours. A late slot is allowed but short: with clearing at 19:45 in summer, an entry around 19:00 leaves you well under an hour, enough for the main palace and not the gardens. A full visit, palaces and gardens, takes two to three hours at a relaxed pace, so the latest comfortable entry is about two and a half hours before clearing. See how long you need.
Days and spaces that can close
Four days a year the whole monument is closed: 1 January, 6 January, Good Friday and 25 December.
Single rooms or garden areas can close at short notice. The Alcázar's own rules (article 8 of its official regulations) say that occasional closures for maintenance, urgent needs or weather alerts are announced to the public and do not give any discount or refund. In July 2026, for example, the official news page announced a temporary closure of the Sala de la Justicia for a press conference.
It is still a royal residence. The upper floor, the Upper Royal Quarters, is visited separately and in small groups.
The free Monday hour
On Mondays the last hour of the day is free, with a ticket booked on the official shop. The shop does not print the hours; independent Seville guides report 18:00 – 19:00 in summer and 16:00 – 17:00 in winter. It sells out early. Details, and who enters free on any day, in free entry.
After dark: night visits and concerts
The Alcázar also opens in the evening for two kinds of events, each with its own ticket:
Theatrical night visits. In 2026 the official programme ran every Thursday and Friday until the end of October, at 21:00, 21:30, 22:00 and 22:30, lasting 75 minutes, for €15.00. See night visits.

Best time to visit
First slot of the day. Arriving at opening gives you the patios and gardens before the tour groups. It is also the slot that sells out first, so book it early on the official shop. A visitor on the Rick Steves forum in November 2025 had the first slot and found the rooms calm at the start, then "very busy" when walking back through them later. Their advice: "be in line at least 30 minutes before your entrance time", because everyone passes the security check.
Late afternoon. Crowds thin out and the light in the gardens is softer. In summer this is also the cooler part of the visit.
Avoid midday in July and August. Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe, and much of the visit is outdoors. See visiting in summer.

When tickets go on sale
The official shop does not publish a release calendar. The same Rick Steves thread (November 2025) reports that tickets are released on the 1st of each month, one to two months ahead. Most of the year you only need a few days; see how far ahead to book.
