Real Alcázar Tickets: Prices, Booking & Sold-Out Options

A standard ticket to the Real Alcázar costs €15.50 and is sold on the official ticket shop. You pick a date and an entry time. That is the cheapest way in, and for most of the year you only need to book a few days ahead.

The general ticket covers the palaces and the gardens, which is the whole visit for most people. The one thing it doesn't include is the upstairs royal apartments, the Upper Royal Quarters, which have their own small timed groups.

How far ahead should you book?

The Alcázar is not the Alhambra. Its general tickets rarely sell out weeks in advance, and travellers on the Rick Steves and Tripadvisor forums mostly book a day or a few days before. Two things change that:

• Spring and autumn weekends, and Easter week, when the morning slots go first.
• The first slot of the day. It is the one everyone wants, because the patios are still quiet.

What sells out much earlier: the Upper Royal Quarters and the free Monday visit.

Booking also saves you the ticket-office queue, which is outdoors, in the sun, on Plaza del Triunfo.

Buying on the official shop

The shop is at alcazardesevilla.infoticketing.com, linked from alcazarsevilla.org. Your ticket arrives by email with a time on it; show it on your phone at the Puerta del León (Lion Gate).

If your card is declined, you are not alone. Visitors have reported the shop refusing some foreign cards, and a different card, often one set up for online verification (3-D Secure), usually works. More fixes in problems buying tickets online.

One warning: several sites have names that sound official and resell the same €15.50 ticket for more. If a plain entry ticket costs more than that, you are not on the Alcázar's shop. See how to spot the official website.

Your slot is gone. Now what?

In order of cost:

1. Try another time or day on the official shop. Late afternoon is usually the last to fill.
2. Book a guided tour with entry included. Tour companies hold their own group slots, so they often still have space. The Royal Alcázar tour with priority access costs from €37.40, is rated ★ 4.9 by 344 travellers, and can be cancelled for free.
3. See the Cathedral in the same booking. The Alcázar, Cathedral and Giralda tour (from €56.40) has 1,103 reviews, which makes it one of the most reviewed tours in the city. It is non-refundable, so book it once your dates are fixed.

Turning up at opening without a ticket can work in quiet months. Plan for a long wait if you try it.

Ticket or guided tour?

The official ticket is the better deal if you can get the slot you want and you like exploring on your own. A tour costs more because a guide is included, and it makes sense in two cases: your date is sold out, or you want someone to explain why a Christian king built a palace covered in Arabic inscriptions.
