Game of Thrones at the Real Alcázar: The Water Gardens of Dorne

The Real Alcázar was the Water Gardens of Dorne, the palace of the Martell family, in season 5 of Game of Thrones. Its gardens, pools and Mudéjar courtyards are all part of the normal visit, so a standard ticket (€15.50) is all you need to see them.

What to look for

• The gardens and pools. The Dornish scenes use the Alcázar's long pools, fountains and orange trees. Head into the gardens after the palaces.
• The Mudéjar courtyards. The carved arches and tiled walls that frame the Martells' conversations are the palace's own decoration. Nothing was built for the show.
• The Baths of Doña María de Padilla. The vaulted underground pool below the Patio del Crucero is one of the most photographed spots in the palace.

Tips for fans

• Go early. The pools and arches photograph best without crowds, which means the first entry slot. Book it on the official shop.
• Allow time for the gardens. Fans often spend longer outside than in. See how long you need.
