Córdoba Day Trip from Seville: The Mezquita, Tickets & Tips

Córdoba is the easiest great day trip from Seville, and its Mosque-Cathedral (Mezquita) belongs with the Alcázar and the Alhambra among the finest Islamic-era monuments in Spain. The high-speed train makes it an easy day out. Entry to the Mezquita costs €15.

The free hour: Monday to Saturday, 8:30 – 9:30, the Mezquita can be visited free of charge (not for groups, and not during special celebrations). It is the quietest time inside, which makes it the best-kept secret of a Córdoba day trip if you can arrive early.

Opening hours change through the year; on the day we checked they were 10:00 – 19:00. Check the official calendar for your date.

Getting there

High-speed and regional trains run between Seville's Santa Justa station and Córdoba many times a day; the fastest take under an hour. From Córdoba station, the old town and the Mezquita are about a 20–25 minute walk.

• On your own is cheapest and simple: train, walk, the free morning hour or a ticket.
