The best months are March to May and October to November: warm but not punishing, with the gardens at their best. July and August are the months to think twice about, because half the visit is outdoors and Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe. Whatever month you choose, the hour you book matters as much as the season.

Climate figures are the AEMET (1991–2020 normals) for Seville, published by Spain's state meteorological agency. Opening hours from the official visitor page, checked September 18, 2026.

The short answer

If you want Go in
Comfortable weather and full gardens April, May, October
Fewest people December to February, weekdays
Long evenings in the gardens May to September, late afternoon
Cheap flights and hotels, and you can take the heat July, August

Month by month

Month Average high Rain What it means
January 16.3 °C Wet The quietest month. Short days, 174 hours of sunshine in December, and a real chance of rain, but the palaces are indoors and the patios are empty.
February 18 °C Wet Still quiet, still mild. A good month if crowds bother you more than showers.
March 22 °C Wet Spring starts. Easter week can fall here and changes everything; see Semana Santa and the Feria.
April 24.0 °C Wet One of the best months, and one of the busiest: Easter and the Feria fill the city. Book the Alcázar early.
May 28 °C Drying out Arguably the best month: warm, long evenings, gardens in flower.
June 32.9 °C Almost none Hot by midday. Go at opening or late afternoon.
July 36.3 °C 0.6 mm The hottest month, with 369 hours of sunshine. Do the gardens before 11:00 or not at all.
August 36.2 °C Almost none As hot, and the month many Sevillians leave. Evening events are the compensation.
September 32 °C Some Still summer in the first half; the second half is one of the best times of the year.
October 26.3 °C Rising Warm days, cooler mornings, fewer people. Winter opening hours start on 1 October.
November 20 °C Wet Quiet and often lovely, with the gardens still green. Carry a jacket for the early slot.
December 17 °C 77.2 mm The wettest month and the shortest days. Christmas week is busier than the rest.

Seville's record is 46.6 °C, measured at the airport on 23 July 1995: a reminder that "hot" here is not the same as hot elsewhere. Our summer plan is in visiting in summer.

The hour matters more than the month

  • The first slot (09:30) is the calmest in every season, and the coolest in summer.
  • Late afternoon is the second-best: softer light, thinning crowds. In winter the site closes earlier, so the window is short; see opening hours.
  • Mid-morning to early afternoon is when the tour groups overlap, all year.

When the city itself changes

  • Semana Santa (Holy Week) and the Feria de Abril are the two weeks when Seville is fullest and dearest. The Alcázar closes on Good Friday, one of its four closing days. See the Alcázar during Semana Santa and the Feria.
  • Summer evenings bring the garden concerts, Noches en los Jardines del Real Alcázar, and the theatrical night visits; see night visits.

Booking by season

In quiet months a day or two ahead is enough on the official shop. For spring weekends, Easter week and the first slot of any day, book as early as you can; visitors report tickets released on the 1st of each month, one to two months ahead. If your date is gone, a guided tour with entry included usually still has space, with free cancellation.
