Much of the Real Alcázar can be visited in a wheelchair, but not all of it. Most of the ground-floor route and the patios can be managed, the gardens are reachable, and entry is free for visitors with a disability of 33% or more, plus one companion. Expect some steps, uneven garden paths and an upper floor that is only partly accessible.

Free-entry rule from the official visitor page, checked September 18, 2026. Access details below come from the accessible-travel guide Puedo Viajar, in a report dated 2015; they may have improved since.

What visitors with reduced mobility can expect

  • At the start of the visit there is a step. Staff open a wide door so wheelchair users can go in.
  • Several rooms have a step at the threshold. Most of the ground-floor route is still manageable.
  • The upper floor is limited. A lift serves the Admiral's Room; the rest of the upstairs is not step-free.
  • The gardens are accessible but uneven, with sandy, gravel paths. Some alternative routes are not signposted.
  • Adapted toilets are available, and there are reserved parking spaces nearby.

Tickets

Visitors with a disability of 33% or more, and one companion, enter free. You may still need a ticket for a time slot: check the official shop and bring your documentation.

Tips

  1. Go at opening, 09:30. Fewer people makes narrow doorways and patios easier.
  2. Ask staff at the entrance about the step-free route on the day; conditions change with restoration work.
  3. In summer, plan the gardens early; the heat is harder on uneven ground. See visiting in summer.
  4. Contact the Alcázar before you go through the official website if you need specific help.
