Yes, you can see both in one day. The Real Alcázar and Seville Cathedral (with its Giralda tower) stand on opposite sides of the Plaza del Triunfo. Do the Alcázar first thing in the morning, the Cathedral after lunch, and allow five to six hours in total. The easiest way to do both is a combined guided tour.

Two separate institutions, two ticket shops, two sets of rules. Nothing you buy for one is valid at the other, and only a guided tour sold by an operator covers both in one booking.
Timing the two
The cathedral closes its ticket office at 18:00, an hour before the doors. Do not leave it to the last moment.
The Alcázar starts clearing at 19:45 in summer, later than its posted hours suggest; see opening hours.
Sunday is the exception: the cathedral opens only in the afternoon, so the Alcázar goes first by default.
One UNESCO site, three buildings
The Cathedral, the Alcázar and the Archivo de Indias between them were listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The Archivo stands on the same square. Give it ten minutes from the outside even if you do not go in.
